Congressional Roadblock

This video explains why Congress needs to streamline the approval process for infrastructure projects. America has an infrastructure backlog totaling more than $4 trillion, in part because the current permitting process is so ludicrous. It can take more than a decade for major projects.

The cost of unnecessary delays is explored in detail in a report by Common Good Chair Philip K. Howard titled “Two Years, Not Ten Years.” It found that a six-year delay in permitting more than doubles the effective cost of infrastructure projects, and that lengthy environmental review is generally harmful to the environment because it prolongs bottlenecks.
